At 10:34 we were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with a fuel spill in the 200 block of Bell Farm Road. Engine 21 was the first arriving company on the scene. The vehicle involved was a 9220 John Deere tractor pulling a plow. The tractor had lost the left front tandem wheels when the front axle broke. The fuel tank, which is under the cab, was also damaged and 250 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled onto the roadway. Roadway was blocked and would be for several hours while the tractor was removed and the fuel spill was cleaned up. Iredell County Deputy EM Paul Webster was requested to the scene as well as Statesville Engine 3 and HAZ-MAT 1. Utility 21 responded with Response 1 which has a large amount of oil dry on board. Thirty bags of absorbent were deployed to control the fuel spill. Traffic on Bell Farm Road was limited to local traffic. Iredell County Sheriff's Office blocked Bell Farm at Mapeleaf Drive and Wayside Engine 601 did the same at Bell Farm on Old Highway 70. One lane was opened later in the afternoon after clean up crews from Country Boy's removed the tractor from the roadway. |
