Cool Springs Fire Department partners with Iredell County ECOM and North Carolina State Highway Patrol VIPER radio system to construct a radio tower at our Station 2. Many have seen and some have asked what all the construction equipment is doing in the field in front of our Station 2 on Fifth Creek Road. In a partnership with Iredell County Emergency Communications (ECOM), and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Voice Interoperability Plan For Emergency Responders (VIPER), a 325-foot radio tower will be constructed. This radio tower will serve all emergency services in Iredell County, including but not limited to Fire Departments, EMS, Law Enforcement, and Animal Control, as well as many other state and federal agencies that utilize the statewide VIPER system. This tower is 1 of 3 new towers being constructed in the Iredell VIPER Simulcast Project. Once completed, this project will add 4 additional sites to the already 3 existing tower sites, making a total of 7 tower sites in Iredell County, greatly improving the radio coverage for Iredell County First Responders. This tower site will also have VHF and UHF infrastructure that serve as backups and paging systems for Iredell County First Responders.
