Classroom SessionTo maintain a high level of service, our personnel are involved in an on-going training program.  There are many subject areas that our personnel must remain proficient in, including fire suppression, rescue, fireground operations, hazardous materials, driving, and Incident Command, to name a few.  Our interior firefighters are trained in NFPA 1403 (basic structural fire fighting) before they are allowed to enter burning structures to fight fire. Many of our personnel are also Certified Firefighters through the State of North Carolina.

For a list of the requirements for each state certification, scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the certification.

Driver Training

As a volunteer firefighter, training is never-ending.  All personnel enrolled in the pension fund are required by the State of North Carolina to maintain at least 36 hours of fire training per year. The department offers in-house training and many of our firefighters attend specialized training in out-of-town seminars and weekend schools. Our training consists of book work, class work, and hands-on evolutions. Our members receive no compensation for their attendance and invest their own personal time into improving their education.

Junior Firefighter Training

Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department currently has several North Carolina State Certified Fire Instructors on the roster that can teach and test North Carolina State certification classes, such as Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Responder, Fire Officer I & II, and the Driver/Operator series. We also invite guest instructors to come in and teach specialized classes on subjects like propane emergencies and terrorism response.

For more information concerning our department's training program, Contact Fire Chief Andy Webster at (704) 872-3221
