Fire Chief Andy Webster attended the North Carolina Association of Firefighters Legislative Day on Wednesday May 15th in Raleigh. Almost 200 firefighters from departments all over the state participated in the event. Firefighters spent the day meeting with our Senators and Representatives and speaking to them about issues that are important to the NC Fire Service.
Chief Webster along with Mooresville Fire & Rescue Chief Curt Deaton met with Senators Vickie Sawyer (District 37), Representative Grey Mills (District 95) and Representative Jeff McNeely (District 84) asking them to support bills that would provide permanent funding the Firefighter's Cancer Benefit Program, Senate Bill 326. Another priority was House Bill 270. This bill would increase the Firefighters and Rescue Squad Workers Pension Fund benefit from $170 per month to $175 or $180. All three voiced their support for these bills.
Thanks to Senator Sawyer and Representatives McNeely and Mills for taking a few minutes from their busy days to meet with Chief Deaton and I.
